Depression Days

In the depression years of the 1930s it was not uncommon for men to take to the Westland hills and look for gold. A repeat of that may not be imminent yet but there are places where you can practise panning for gold without a license. Many are also picnic spots, offer walks and can be used for camping. Like Caleb Smith who walked the streets of Manhattan Alec marks off the streets on a map as he goes.
